Music

Churchie Music is a vibrant, dynamic and busy department, with multiple opportunities throughout the year for boys to immerse themselves in music making of the highest level. Our success is achieved through the considerable effort and dedication from all parties involved—staff, parents and, most importantly, the boys.

Over the years, I have yet to hear a young man say, ’I wish I had quit playing/singing much earlier in my school life.’ It should be no surprise that the conversations I have are quite the opposite to this. The memories that flow from their time here as musicians—of concerts, rehearsals and tours; of challenging times and amazing moments—these enrich their time at Churchie.

I am grateful that so many continue their love of music into their later years.

May Concert Series

Band Concert

Date: Thursday 2 May 2024
Time: 6 to 7:30 pm
Location: Morris Hall, Churchie

All of our bands at Churchie gather in Morris Hall to perform in front of the Churchie community as they develop their repertoire for the year and showcase their progress. Students have been working hard since Term 4, 2023 where they had the opportunity to work with conductor David Law at the annual Music Camp.

Choral Concert

Date: Thursday 16 May 2024
Time: 6 to 8 pm
Location: Morris Hall, Churchie

The annual Choir Concert is one of the highlights of the performance program. This year the concert will feature music from the Generations in Jazz set pieces and internationally acclaimed massed choir repertoire. Come and enjoy the varied repertoire in Morris Hall.

Strings and Guitar Concert

Date: Thursday 23 May 2024
Time: 6 to 8 pm
Location: Morris Hall, Churchie

This year the Churchie Strings and Guitar Concert will feature a range of classic repertoire as well as some hidden gems. From elegant and playful Strauss waltzes, the braun of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and jogtrotting Grieg, there is something for everyone. Be sure to save the date, invite your friends and come to celebrate the music of the Churchie guitar ensembles, string ensembles and the Symphony Orchestra.
